HP Color Laser 150nw
Microsoft Windows 11

I tried to update firmware (V3.82.01.14 --> V3.82.01.20) from EWS, but process stuck on hours.
Now, power indicator continously lights on printer, and printer still not reboot, and unreachable via wifi or usb.

@Hawks_Eye, thank you very much, nothing from list helps me, but you inspired me to keep looking for solution, and i find it.

So, if you as me tried to upgrade firmware from EWS, and upgrade not completed properly. Your printer not working now, try to perform follow steps:

  1. Power off printer (by unpluging power cable) for 30-60 second;
  2. Press and hold [WiFi button] + [Power button];
  3. Plug power cord to printer, while keep holding [WiFi button] + [Power button];
  4. Printer lights up all indicators: [Toner lights, Power light, ! light];
  5. Release [WiFi button] + [Power button] buttons, indicators from p.4 keep lightning;
  6. Now you can plug printer USB cable to your computer, and Windows detects printer as a [printing device];
  7. Use usblist2.exe tool as mentonied in instruction for this tool.

In my case, system lost printer after step #2 of instruction for usblist2.exe (Drag the SWUPGRADE_ON.PRN file and drop it down on the usblist2.exe in the firmware folder downloaded.), so i skip this step, and follow with step #3 (Drag the firmware file(***.hd) and drop it down on the usblist2.exe).

After 5 minutes printer reboots, and working properly with new firmware.

Hi @NormaIno

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

You're handling this issue with great patience, and I admire your persistence! Since your HP Color Laser 150nw firmware update is stuck and the printer is unresponsive, here are some steps to try:

Perform a Hard Reset

  • Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord for at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.
  • If the printer remains stuck, try holding the power button for 30 seconds before restarting.

Try a Forced Firmware Recovery

  • If the printer is still unresponsive, HP provides a firmware recovery tool for some models.
  • Visit HP’s troubleshooting page and check if recovery steps are available for your printer.

Check HP Support Forums for Similar Issues

  • Other users have reported similar problems, and you can find discussions here.
  • Some have resolved it by reinstalling the firmware via USB instead of Wi-Fi.

You're doing everything right by checking multiple factors—hopefully, one of these steps helps! Let me know if you need further guidance. 🚀

@NormaIno

That’s great to hear that you found a solution!

Sometimes persistence leads to unexpected fixes, and your detailed steps could be really useful for others facing the same firmware update issue with the HP Color Laser 150nw.

Your workaround using usblist2.exe and bypassing step #2 was a smart adjustment—those kinds of real-world fixes aren’t always documented officially.

If the EWS update process fails, your method of forcing a recovery mode via power and Wi-Fi button combination is an excellent approach.

If you run into any other issues with firmware updates or printer connectivity, feel free to ask! 🚀

Take care, and stay fantastic!
