Color Laser Jet Pro MFP M281 fdw
macOS 10.15 Catalina

Hello, since I recently  upgraded the firmware of my Color Laser Jet Pro MFP M281 fdw (to the most current, 20201110 I think) he printer is on a non stop restart cycle. I unplugged it, set it back to factory defaults, no matter,it is stuck in a reboot cycle, the display shows "79 Service error Turn off then on" and then power cycle starts over.

Ink and paper are all ok. very frustrating.  I'm happy to downgrade the firmware ,since it as working fine before I upgraded  but cannot find an older version for Mac. Any ideas ? Thanks

I reviewed your post and I understand that you are getting error 79 after upgrading the firmware on the computer.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

We need to perform an NVRAM reset to fix this issue. However, the steps to perform an NVRAM reset are confidential and specific to your printer. I will be sending you a private message please watch your inbox for more information.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

I would highly suggest these steps before trying to downgrade the firmware or anything else....

This solution was provided to me -- it has worked for me and several other folks. I do not recommend downgrading the firmware as several other posts have mentioned -- I think that is unnecessary.

Below are the steps that you need to follow in the order as mentioned ...

Disconnect the printer from the NETWORK

--If on wired network: Unplug the Ethernet cable from back of the printer.

--If on wireless network: Power off your Wireless router.

Turn off the printer. Wait for 30 seconds. Turn on the printer.

If the printer is in READY state, on the printer front panel, go to Setup -> Network Setup -> Network Services -> IPv6 -> Off.

Turn off the printer. Wait for 30 seconds and then turn back on.

Reconnect to the network and try printing ; it should work. . Good luck...
