Hi @Nickyb03,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP printer is showing a "color ink cartridge missing" error and the display lights are blinking next to the color ink cartridge, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue.

Check Cartridge Installation:

  • Open the printer cover and ensure that the color ink cartridge is correctly installed. Remove it and reinsert it, ensuring it clicks into place securely.

Inspect the Cartridge:

  • Check for any protective tape on the cartridge that may not have been removed before installation. If present, carefully remove it.
  • Examine the cartridge for any physical damage or leaks.

Clean the Contacts:

  • With the cartridge removed, clean the electrical contacts on both the cartridge and the printer using a lint-free cloth or cotton swab slightly dampened with distilled water. Allow it to dry completely before reinserting.

Check Ink Levels:

  • If your printer supports it, check the ink levels to ensure the color cartridge has ink. Low or empty cartridges can sometimes trigger this error.

Update Firmware:

  • Make sure your printer firmware is up to date. Check the HP website for any updates specific to your printer model.

Reset the Printer:

  • Power off the printer and unplug it from the wall outlet. Wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and power it on.

Replace the Cartridge:

  • If the issue persists, the color cartridge may be faulty. Consider replacing it with a new, compatible cartridge.

Check Printer Settings:

  • Ensure that your printer settings are configured to allow color printing. Sometimes, selecting the "Grayscale" option can cause issues with color cartridges.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
