I tried resetting the printer. I tried cleaning the cartridges. Neither thing worked. Other suggestions?

Have you tried checking with a different ink cartridge? Does the issue persist?

 

Are you using HP genuine ink cartridges?

 

Try updating the printer firmware to the latest version and check if it helps.

If the issue still persists after trying out the steps. It is certainly a hardware issue with the printer or the ink cartridges.

I updated the firmware, but the problem persists. I am using genuine HP ink - it's the ink that came originally with the printer.  I'm a little afraid to buy new ink because of how much it costs. If the printer is broken then it will be useless. It's not that much more expensive to just buy a whole new printer with the ink included.
