I can scan & print colour on my envy 5541 but it will not print colour from the computer. Checked everything single thing I can find, it's set to colour. I've even tried factory reset. Ready to throw it out. Please help

Hi @Sue65a,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds frustrating when your HP Envy 5541 prints color from the scanner but not from the computer. Since you've already checked settings and tried a factory reset, here are some additional steps to troubleshoot the issue.

Check Printer Driver: Ensure you have the correct and up-to-date printer driver installed. Sometimes, outdated or corrupt drivers can cause issues with color printing. Go to the HP support website to download the latest driver for your model.

Check Printer Settings on the Computer:

  • When you print, ensure that in the print dialog, you select "Color" and not "Black and White" or "Grayscale".
  • On Windows, go to the Printers & Scanners section in Settings, select your HP Envy 5541, and click Manage. Then, select Printing Preferences. Make sure that color printing is selected.

Check Ink Levels: Verify that all color ink cartridges have sufficient ink. Even if the printer can scan color images, a low ink level in one or more cartridges can prevent color printing.

Print a Test Page:

  • On your HP Envy 5541, print a Self-Test Diagnostic Page to see if there is a problem with the printhead or ink flow. You can usually access this option from the printer's control panel under Settings > Tools.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor: This tool can automatically detect and fix many printing issues. Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor to help identify any underlying problems.

Check Software Settings: If you're printing from a specific software (e.g., Word, Photoshop), check that the software's print settings are not overriding the printer's color settings.

Test on Another Computer: If possible, try connecting the printer to another computer. This will help determine if the issue is specific to your current computer or the printer itself.

Reset the Printer: You mentioned trying a factory reset, but also make sure that all settings are restored to their defaults, including any network settings, and that you’ve cleared any error messages.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thanks Aiden. Nothing has  made a difference but I have found I can print what I wanted from one drive via my phone, so it is a computer specific issue. I will try again another time.
