HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer

When I put my papers on the top of the printer to make a copy, The message "Document Loaded" show up.  Then I press "Copy" then "Document" then "Start Black".  But instead of the document feeder taking the papers into the printer, an error code comes up.  "the Selected Resize option can only be used when copying from the scanner glass. Job cancelled."     I don't understand.  I have not selected a resize option.  I am choosing tray one which has 8.5x11 paper in it..  The document feeder takes the paper in 8.5 to the left and 11 across the top.  The paper tray is the opposite.  Could that be the problem?

Hi @ANDERSEN4,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like there might be a setting or configuration issue causing the error message to appear. Here are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot the problem.

  • Check Paper Settings: Make sure that the paper size and type settings on the printer match the paper loaded in tray one. Sometimes, if the settings are not aligned, it can cause errors like the one you're experiencing.
  • Restart the Printer: Turn off the printer, wait a few seconds, and then turn it back on. This can sometimes resolve temporary glitches or errors.
  • Reset Printer Settings: If the issue persists, you can try resetting the printer to its default settings. This should clear any incorrect settings that may be causing the problem. Refer to the printer's manual for instructions on how to reset it.
  • Update Firmware: Ensure that your printer's firmware is up to date. HP often releases firmware updates to address bugs and improve performance.

Regarding your question about the orientation of the paper in the document feeder versus the paper tray, it shouldn't typically cause an error like the one you described. The printer should be able to handle different orientations of paper between the document feeder and the paper tray. However, it's always a good idea to ensure that the paper is loaded correctly according to the printer's specifications.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you Alden4.

I tried all of your steps you suggested but none seemed to work.  I know the document feed works because when I set the scanner to take it from the document feeder it works, but for some reason I cannot get the document feeder to work when I place a piece of paper in it.  Thank you for your help.  I guess it is just not meant to be.
