I have an OfficeJet Pro 8600. It is approximately 10 years old. I have always used HP cartridges. I recently ran out of yellow ink. I replaced it with a brand-new HP cartridge. I got an error message of a "damaged cartridge". I replaced it with another HP yellow cartridge and got the same message. I cleaned up the connection from the cartridge to the printer. I have reset the printer. I have made sure the firmware is up to date. I still get the same error message. What else can I try?

Hi @rhc2370,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you've already tried cleaning the cartridge contacts, resetting the printer, and ensuring the firmware is up to date, there are a few other steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue with the damaged ink cartridge:
- Inspect the Cartridge: Check the cartridge itself for any visible damage, such as cracks or leaks. Ensure that the plastic film covering the cartridge's electrical contacts has been removed.
- Try Another Cartridge: If possible, try using a different HP cartridge of the same color to see if the issue persists. This can help determine whether the problem lies with the cartridge itself or with the printer.
- Clean Cartridge Contacts: Remove the cartridge and gently clean the electrical contacts on both the cartridge and the printer with a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with distilled water. Make sure to allow them to dry completely before reinserting the cartridge.
- Inspect the Cartridge Slot: Examine the cartridge slot in the printer for any debris or obstructions that may be preventing proper contact with the cartridge. Use compressed air or a soft brush to clean out any dust or debris.
- Update Printer Drivers: Ensure that you have the latest drivers installed for your printer on your Windows 10 system. Sometimes outdated drivers can cause compatibility issues with newer cartridges. Software and Drivers for HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer series - N911
