Hi @Nigelartist,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Deskjet 2071 printer is feeding paper through but not printing, and you are experiencing paper jams during this process, there could be several underlying issues. Here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:

1. Check for Paper Jams

  • Ensure the printer is powered off and unplugged before you begin inspecting it.
  • Open the paper input tray and any access doors to reach the paper path. For many printers, this includes the rear access door or the ink cartridge access area.
  • Look for any paper stuck in the printer. Carefully remove any jammed paper, making sure not to tear it.
  • Ensure there are no foreign objects or debris in the paper path. Clean the area if necessary.

2. Check Paper Feed Mechanism

  • Check the rollers that feed paper into the printer. Make sure they are clean and not damaged. Dirty or worn rollers can cause feeding issues.
  • Use a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with water to clean the rollers. Gently rotate the rollers to clean the entire surface.
  • Ensure there are no objects obstructing the movement of the rollers or the paper feed mechanism.

3. Verify Paper and Ink Cartridge Installation

  • Make sure the paper tray is properly loaded with paper. Ensure the paper is not wrinkled or too thick. Adjust the paper guides to fit the paper size.
  • Open the cartridge access door and ensure the ink cartridges are properly installed. Remove and reinstall them if necessary.
  • Ensure that the ink cartridges have sufficient ink. Replace any low or empty cartridges.

4. Perform a Printer Reset

  • With the printer unplugged, wait for 60 seconds. Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
  • If the printer has a reset option in the menu, perform a reset to restore factory settings.

5. Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers

  • Go to the HP Support website and search for your Deskjet 2071. Download and install the latest drivers for your printer.
  • Uninstall the current drivers from your computer and reinstall the latest version from the HP Support website.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
