HP DeskJet 2752e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

My 2700e Deskjet -- when I turn it on, reinstall the plug, whatever,  I get an E  error message in the window and the color cartridge, paper feed, and I buttons all blink orange.  No matter how many times I reset the printer, the same thing happens. Also when I open the bottom door, the ink cartridge does not move to let me access the cartridges

Hi @JimT3726,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP DeskJet 2700e is showing an E error with multiple orange lights blinking, and the ink carriage doesn’t move when you open the access door. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

1. Check for Paper Jams

Turn off the printer and unplug it.

Remove all paper from the input tray.

Open the rear access door (if your model has one) and check for stuck or torn paper.

Make sure no small scraps are blocking the rollers.

2. Power Reset

Unplug the printer from power while it’s still on.

Wait at least 60 seconds.

Plug it directly into a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors or extension cords).

Turn it back on and check if the error clears.

3. Cartridge Access Check

If the carriage does not move, try gently moving it by hand (only when the printer is powered off).

Sometimes a jammed carriage can cause the E error.

Check for bits of packing material, tape, or obstructions inside the printer.

4. Reseat Cartridges

If you can get the carriage to move, remove both cartridges.

Wipe the copper-colored contacts with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.

Reinstall the cartridges firmly until they click.

5. Run a Hard Reset

Disconnect both the power cord and USB cable (if connected).

Hold the Power button on the printer for 15 seconds.

Reconnect only the power cord and try turning it back on.

6. Check the Error Pattern

On DeskJet 2700e models, an E with blinking cartridge lights often indicates an ink cartridge issue (not detected, defective, or incorrect).

If possible, try another set of cartridges.

7. Firmware & HP Smart App Check

If the printer powers on normally after reset, connect it to the HP Smart app on your phone or PC.

The app may display a more specific error (e.g., cartridge failure, jam, or alignment needed).

I hope this helps.
