Hi @tosh9,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

When the web light on your HP Deskjet 3720 printer is flashing amber, it typically indicates an issue with the printer's connection to the network or the internet. Here's what you can try to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

Check Network Connection:

  • Make sure your printer is connected to the same network as your computer or device.
  • Verify that the network cables (if using wired connection) are securely plugged in.
  • Restart your router to ensure a stable connection.

Restart Printer:

  • Turn off your printer, wait for a few seconds, and then turn it back on. Allow it to initialize and reconnect to the network.

Reset Printer:

  • Press and hold the Wireless and Cancel buttons simultaneously for 5 seconds to reset the printer network settings. This will reset the printer's network configuration to factory defaults.
  • After resetting, reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network using the setup wizard on the printer's control panel.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer. You can usually find firmware updates on the HP support website. Updating the firmware can resolve many issues, including connectivity problems.

Check for Error Messages:

  • If there are any error messages displayed on the printer's control panel or on your computer, take note of them. These messages can provide clues about what might be wrong.

Diagnostic Print:

  • If you're still having trouble, you can perform a diagnostic print to check the printer's status and settings.
  • Press and hold the Information and Cancel buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds to print a diagnostic page.
  • This page should provide information about the printer's network settings and status.

Regarding the issue with printing only icons and not text when running a diagnostic, it might be due to settings or configurations on your printer or computer. Make sure that the printer drivers are correctly installed and up to date on your computer. Additionally, check the print settings to ensure that it's configured to print text correctly.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you so much for your time.  I tried everything that you suggested and the web button was still winking at me.  SO, the printer is now residing in my rubbish bin.  A new printer is on its way and it is not the same model.  At the low price I suppose I had my moneys worth in the 8 months that I had it.
