Hi @Nananell

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

If the information light on your HP DeskJet 2640 won’t turn off, it’s likely indicating an unresolved condition such as a paper jam, low ink, or a cartridge issue. A full reset and inspection can help clear the alert.

Here’s a focused guide to help restore normal operation:

1. Power Reset the Printer

This clears temporary faults and resets internal sensors:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the wall.
  • Wait 60 seconds.
  • Press and hold the Power button for 30 seconds while unplugged.
  • Plug the printer back in and power it on.

2. Check for Paper or Debris

Even a small shred can trigger the light:

  • Open the input tray, output tray, and rear access door.
  • Use a flashlight to inspect for:
    • Torn paper
    • Jammed rollers
    • Foreign objects
  • Gently rotate the rollers to ensure smooth movement.

3. Inspect Ink Cartridges

Improper seating or contact issues can cause alerts:

  • Open the cartridge access door.
  • Remove both cartridges and inspect the copper contacts.
  • Gently clean the contacts with a dry lint-free cloth.
  • Reinsert the cartridges firmly until they click into place.
  • Close the door and wait for the printer to initialize.

4. Check the HP App for Alerts

The app can provide more specific error details:

  • Open the HP App on your computer or mobile device.
  • Select your printer > Status or Notifications.
  • Review any active alerts and follow the suggested steps.

5. Print a Test Page

This confirms whether the printer is operational:

  • Press the Information and Cancel buttons together.
  • A Printer Status Report should print.
  • If it prints successfully, the light may clear afterward.

6. Update Firmware

Outdated firmware can cause persistent alerts:

  • Visit the HP DeskJet 2640 support page.
  • Select your operating system and download the latest firmware update.
  • Install it via USB or Wi-Fi.

Let me know how the printer responds after these steps. If the light remains on, I can help you isolate whether it’s a sensor issue or a deeper initialization fault.
