OfficeJet Pro 9018e
I replaced the black ink cartidge. The color cartidges are empty. I'm trying to print a black & white doc but cannot print. Printer keeps saying cartridges depleted.
Color cartridges show 0% while black shows 100%.
Do I need to have full color cartridges just to print a black & white doc!?

If all the ink cartridges mount in a common printhead then yes you need to have working ink in all slots to prevent air being introduced into the printhead. Only models where the color is a separate printhead/cartridge are you able to print with only black.

Ok Thank you Repairatrooper for your reply. I didn't realize this and appreciate your information.
I since replaced the color cartridges, and it's now printing. But the black & white now has issues as some of the lines are faded or missing... tried cleaning and aliginng cartridges but print quality still not good.
Bought this printer brand new one year ago, approx $300, barely used it and now seems destined for the trash at this point.
Lesson learned, probably my last HP purchase. Maybe keep it to copy/scan but the print functionality is too much of a headache. Sorry for the rant and appreciate your reply and information!
Thanks!
