The short answer is No, certainly not.

 

The longer answer is that the donated printer might have come to you with an obsolete Instant Ink subscription account and / or the Instant Ink cartridges left in the printer.

 

What?

 

People do this -- they don't want a printer -- Instead of cancelling the account and removing the Instant Ink Cartridges from the printer before it is donated, the original owner passes the problem onto someone else.

 

If the only issue is that the Instant Ink cartridges were left in the printer, these must be removed -- a new set of HP ink cartridges need be purchased and installed.

 

If the printer is still tied to an Instant Ink subscription, the title / subscription must be removed from the printer.

 

Any issues can be sorted --

Agents can access private information to help remove previous owner / account.
