@WardCT,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If the document arm on your HP OfficeJet 4650 is stuck and won't release, try the following steps.

Check for Paper Jams or Obstructions

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Open the automatic document feeder (ADF) and inspect for any small pieces of paper or debris.
  • Gently remove any stuck paper without forcing it.

Reset the Printer

  • Unplug the printer from power.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Try moving the document arm again.

Manually Adjust the Document Arm

  • Gently wiggle the arm to see if it loosens.
  • Do not apply excessive force.
  • If it’s slightly misaligned, carefully move it back to its proper position.

Clean the Rollers

  • Open the scanner lid and locate the ADF rollers.
  • Use a lint-free cloth dampened with distilled water to clean the rollers.
  • Let them dry completely before closing the lid.

Perform a Hard Reset

  • Press and hold the Power button for 30 seconds.
  • Release and turn the printer back on.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
