I have installed HP Officejet Pro 8130 and it is recognized, prints test page.
BUT will not print UNLESS i print from the HP Smart app on my computer.
When HP Smart app is not active the print button is active on my word document but the document is not printed.

Hi @Awesome121,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Officejet Pro 8130 Printer, having a printing issue via the HP Smart app and not directly from other applications like Microsoft Word. There are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:
Check Printer Status and Connectivity:
- Ensure that the printer is set as the default printer in your computer's printer settings.
- Confirm the printer is online and properly connected to the same network as your computer.
- Restart your printer and computer to eliminate any temporary connectivity issues.
Update Printer Drivers:
- Outdated or incorrect drivers can often cause printing issues. Download and install the latest drivers from https://support.hp.com/us-en.
Check Print Queue:
- Ensure there are no stuck documents in the print queue that may be preventing new print jobs. Clear any pending jobs if necessary.
Reset Printing System (Mac):
- If you're using a Mac, try resetting the printing system by going to 'System Preferences' > 'Printers & Scanners,' right-clicking on the printer list, and selecting 'Reset Printing System.'
Reinstall HP App:
- Since the printer works from the HP app, uninstalling and reinstalling the HP App – For HP Printers, Laptops, and Tech Accessories | HP® Official Site may resolve any configuration issues with print settings.
Check Application-Specific Settings:
- Open the Print Dialog in Word, and ensure that the correct printer is selected.
- Check for any specific print settings or preferences that may need adjustment.
Update HP App:
- Make sure the HP app is up-to-date. HP App – For HP Printers, Laptops, and Tech Accessories | HP® Official Site to avoid compatibility issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
