My MacBook Pro was not connecting wirelessly (WIFI) to a HP 6055e printer after it had been connected before. I called HP printer support and was forwarded to a 3rd party IT tech support company:  ITinfoCube.  They said my computer had been hacked and infected with viruses.

I allowed them to take control of my computer and the problem was solved - I also naively paid $400, for this fix and a two year support contract.

However, I am having some anxiety about whether or not they are legitimate and I am feeling nervous that they still have access to my computer.  Is this a scam?!  Or is this a legitimate HP 3rd party support group?

Unlikely that they are affiliated with HP, it is possible that they are legitimate support, but if they were making claims that they were HP or affiliated then then likely they are less than reputable. If you paid via credit card I suggest that you immediately contact your card company and either cancel the charge or at least put a hold on it. If you allowed them remote access you need to have your printer scanned to ensure they have not either implanted malware or left a back door open for themselves. I have escalated this post to the moderators as HP takes fraud against their customers very seriously. They may contact you via private message if they need more details.

Welcome to the HP Community --

HP does not post Support phone numbers on the Internet - not on HP websites, not in Pop-ups, not in sneaky chat windows.

One exception >> Instant Ink Support (at this writing) posts their support numbers at the Instant Ink support site -- and unless you have or want a subscription to Instant Ink, it is not useful to contact HP Instant Ink Support.

HP is aware of the illicit use of their name, the claims made by so many, and the huge problems that the thieves and rats continue to cause.

It was a scam.

Call your bank and see if you can straighten out the mess.

Report the incident to the Fraud authorities.
