Hi @373669

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how frustrating it is when the printer keeps showing a “door open” message even though everything looks closed.

You’ve already taken the right step by checking the doors, so let’s go through a few more actions that can help clear this error.

Step 1: Power reset

  • Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the cord back in directly to a wall outlet and power on.
  • This clears any temporary sensor misreadings.

Step 2: Check all access doors

  • Open and close the main cartridge access door firmly.
  • If your printer has a rear access panel or duplexer, remove it and reseat it securely.
  • Make sure no paper or debris is blocking the door sensors.

Step 3: Inspect door sensors

  • Look along the edges of the access doors for small plastic tabs or levers.
  • These tabs press against sensors inside the printer.
  • If a tab is bent or not engaging, gently adjust it so it presses correctly when the door is closed.

Step 4: Reseat cartridges

  • Open the cartridge access door.
  • Remove the cartridges and check for protective tape or debris.
  • Reseat them firmly until they click into place.
  • Close the door and check if the error clears.

Step 5: Update firmware

  • Open the HP App on your Windows PC.
  • Go to Printer Settings > Advanced Settings > Printer Update.
  • Install any available firmware updates to ensure the printer interprets sensor signals correctly.

Step 6: Run diagnostics

  • On the printer’s control panel, go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Run Diagnostics (if available).
  • This test can confirm whether the door sensor is functioning.

By reseating doors, checking the sensor tabs, and refreshing firmware, you give the printer a clean start and help it recognize that the doors are properly closed.
