I keep getting an E3 error message when setting up my printer. I have tried all steps to reset the issue, but nothing has worked. This item is brand new and has not been used. I have not installed the two tank system printheads as the cartridge will not move as normal.

@85032006, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.
The E3 error on HP printers typically indicates a carriage jam, meaning the ink cartridge carriage is stuck and cannot move freely. Since your printer is brand new and the printheads haven’t been installed yet, this is likely a mechanical blockage or packaging material issue.
Here are the steps to resolve it:
- Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord from the wall and the printer.
- Open the access door to the ink cartridge area.
- Check for and remove any packing materials:
- Look for orange tape, cardboard inserts, or plastic clips that may still be inside.
- Ensure nothing is obstructing the carriage path.
- Gently move the carriage:
- Try sliding the ink cartridge carriage manually from side to side.
- If it doesn’t move, check again for obstructions.
- Install the printheads:
- If your printer uses a two-tank system, install the printheads as per the setup guide.
- Make sure they click into place securely.
- Close the access door, plug the printer back in, and power it on.
If the error persists after these steps, try a printer reset:
- Disconnect power while the printer is on.
- Wait 60 seconds.
- Reconnect and power on.
