Hi @932974,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

The E4 error on your HP Smart Tank 520 All-in-One printer indicates a paper jam, which can be either real or false. Here's how to resolve it:

1. Cancel the Print Job

  • Press the Cancel button on the printer to stop the current job.

2. Check All Jam Locations

Look for jammed paper or debris in these areas:

  • Input Tray: Remove any visible paper. Do not remove the tray shield.
  • Output Tray: Gently pull out any stuck paper.
  • Printhead Access Area:
    • Open the front door.
    • Slide the print carriage if needed.
    • Remove any jammed paper or obstructions.
    • Ensure the printhead cover is properly closed.
  • Bottom of the Printer:
    • Turn off and unplug the printer.
    • Open the bottom access door.
    • Remove any jammed paper or debris.

3. Check for False Jams

  • Even if no paper is visible, dust or small scraps can trigger the sensor.
  • Use a flashlight to inspect tight areas.

4. Restart the Printer

  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
  • Try printing a test page.
