I understand the E9 error on an HP Smart Tank printer typically indicates an issue with the printhead or ink system. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the problem:

 

  • Restart the Printer: Turn off the printer, wait for a few minutes, and then turn it back on. Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve temporary issues.
  • Check Ink Levels: Ensure that the ink tanks are not empty or nearly empty. Replace any empty or low ink cartridges with new ones.
  • Inspect Printhead: Open the printer cover and carefully inspect the printhead. Look for any visible obstructions, such as paper scraps or debris. Clean the printhead using a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with water or isopropyl alcohol.
  • Reset the Printer: Resetting the printer to its factory settings might help resolve the issue. Refer to your printer's user manual for instructions on how to perform a factory reset.
  • Update Firmware: Ensure that your printer's firmware is up to date. Sometimes, firmware updates include fixes for common errors and issues. Update the firmware on an HP printer
