Hi @Dedzra,

Thank you for your response,

Is there anything else that I can help you with today?

I understand how frustrating it is to see “ER 75” right after installing a new HP 141A toner cartridge. Let’s go through what this error means and how to fix it.

What Does ER 75 Mean?

On HP LaserJet printers, ER 75 typically indicates a toner cartridge authentication failure. This happens when:

  • The cartridge is not recognized as a genuine HP.
  • The printer cannot validate the security chip.
  • Firmware or region mismatch issues occur.

Step-by-Step Fix

1. Verify Cartridge

  • Ensure the cartridge is genuine HP (check for the HP security label).
  • If purchased from a store, confirm it’s not expired or damaged.

2. Restart Printer

  • Power off the printer.
  • Remove the toner cartridge.
  • Wait 30 seconds, reinstall the cartridge, and power on.

3. Update Printer Firmware

  • Go to HP’s official site: 👉 Official HP® Support
  • Enter your printer model and install the latest firmware.
  • Firmware updates often resolve authentication errors.

4. Disable Cartridge Protection (Optional)

  • On the printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS)
    • Go to Settings → Security → Cartridge Protection.
    • Turn it Off. (Only do this if you trust the cartridge source.)
