Display icons.  The symbol for "problem" is displayed.  This means to check HP software.  How do I do that?  The printer prints.

Hi @Daisy4me,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If your printer is displaying a "problem" or "warning" icon but still prints, it may indicate a minor issue such as low ink, a pending update, or maintenance needs. Here's how to check the HP software for details:

Please remove the Cartridges from the Printer if possible, and try a Hard Reset. Do keep us posted to help you better

** Hard reset :
1. Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
4. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
5. Wait at least 60 seconds.
6. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
7. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
8. Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on. The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
9. Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Please uninstall the HP Smart app --> restart the Device, Wi-Fi router and printer --> install it back and add the printer.

Please update the Firmware from the link, This will help with how to update the firmware on the printer or devices.

I just purchased and installed HP DeskJet 2800e All-in-one Printer Series.  I also purchased a HP 4 Year Next Business Day Exchange Support Warranty.  I have contacted HP website and telephoned with them.  The HP website has not yet recoginzed my printer s/n and I was told it takes about 3 weeks for my warranty to start.  Very strange.  I very much appreciate your suggestions for resolving my problem.  I will hold your suggestions in abeyance for use in case HP cannot.  Thank you.

Hi @Daisy4me,

Thank you for letting me know. I was trying to check and see that the warranty has already been updated, and I do see that the 4-year Carepack is updated on the account, and it's active.

I would suggest you try the steps and let me know if you need any help. We are here for you.

Take care and have a good day.

The problem icon displayed on the printer display said to check the HP software.  The problem was that I had not loaded any paper into the printer feeder.  Once loaded, the icon went away.  But I had to find that out by accident.  The HP "instruction" sheet delivered with the printer was quite inadequate.  And dealing with their website is anything but easy.  But I thank the individual who sent me a help solution.

I really appreciate the suggestions from VikramtheGreat.  Thank you.  As my printer was brand new and the suggestions from Vikram were a bit involved, I tried to reach HP via the support warranty I purchased with the printer.  HP helped me.  I am glad I did not try Vikram's suggestions because the problem was due to insufficient user info instructions as supplied with the printer.  The icon in the display said "Problem:  Check the HP software".  The only problem was that I had not yet loaded paper in the feeder.  Very simple yet HP said to check their software.  HP should supply a bit more info for setting up the printer.  Ah, well.  Problem solved.  Agan, thank you Vikram.

Hi @Daisy4me,

Thank you for your response,

That's great to hear — and I'm glad your issue is resolved! 😊 Sometimes the simplest solutions can be the trickiest to spot. It's understandable how a vague message like "Check the HP software" could lead to unnecessary troubleshooting.

Your feedback about clearer setup instructions is definitely valid — it would save a lot of time and frustration for new users.

Thanks for sharing the outcome! Let me know if you need help with anything else. Happy printing! 🖨
