The suggestion to run Print and Scan solved the problem

You can run the Print and Scan Doctor to set the default printer if you would like, this might be the easiest of options.  You can use the following link to download and run the Print and Scan Doctor: www.hp.com/go/tools.

This worked for me.  I have been fighting this problem forever and using the Print and Scan Doctor fixed it.  Amazing.  Thank you !

Thank you! I was getting so frustrated and was having the same issue. Sure enough I disconnected from my work VPN and it worked fine.

2. Operating System installed (if applicable)
• Example: Windows XP, Windows Vista 32-bit, Windows 7 64-bit
3. Error message (if any)
• Example: ""Low disk space"" error in Windows
4. Any changes made to your system before the issue occurred
• Examples: Upgrading your Operating System or installing a new software; or installing new hardware like a printer, modem, or router.
