HP ENVY 6034e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

I have had my 6034e printer for 16 months. During this time I have printer 341 pages. (Not that many). I am on the monthly cartridge plan ( Cheapest).  For 13 months it has been good. Good printing. Responsive. Happy

In month 14 something happened.

The printer became unresponsive. Pulsating white light.

The Power button does not work (to turn it off).

When I power off (at the plug)  it does not progress to the music to say "Hello Again.. I am ready"

 Just pulsating white light.

So I follow the process

Unplug cable. Press Power and WIFI buttons, then plug in the power cable, then wait for the Panel to light up.. wait for the right hand side light to flash... then in HP Smart... add printer

Eventually the printer is added and I can print (perfectly).... for an hour,... a day... a random duration.

Then the printer becomes unresponsive

During these unresponsive time, HP Smart says "Asleep" or "Offline"

In my testing, I connected to the EWS (Webpage for the printer) as well as PINGing the  IP address.

I connect to the EWS and it tells me the WIFI signal is strong (5)

My ping from a windows command  is constant.

Then at some point the printer is non-responsive .... the EWS does not connect.. BUT the ping  is fine and unaffected.

During these productive times, I check for  new firmware (I have the latest)

It seems that there is a connection problem with the HP Smart servers  and that's when it fails.

Sometimes when I run the diagnostic, it says ? No problem found:, but still no print occurs.

Its unlikely to be a hardware/PSU fault since the PINGing continues until I unplug the power cable.

If I then unplug and re-plug the power cable... back to unresponsive.. and no PING response

It summary it is very disappointing that I believe the printer hardware is in perfect health, BUT the software (Printer/HP Smart/Servers/somewhere) is creating a bad User Experience.

I am sure in this time of AI and Smart software development/diagnostics... it has to be in HPs interest to solve these user problems,

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, beyond the steps that I have mentioned here.

If you can ping the printer but it does not print there is a hardware problem with the Wi-Fi

I assume you are pinging and printing using the same band (2.4ghz or 5ghz)

If your PC is hardwired over an ethernet cable and also has Wi-Fi enabled, disable the Wi-Fi.

If having problem in 5ghz band, switch to the 2.4ghz band. You can do this by renaming the band's SSID and connecting only to the name of the 2.4ghz band

Can you print if using a USB cable?

if the printer is connected to the router then try printing directly using Wi-Fi direct (or vice-versa)

Let me know what you find out or if you need help with Wi-Fi direct.

Working thought your response...

"If you can ping the printer but it does not print there is a hardware problem with the Wi-Fi"

I am confused here. I am pinging via the WIFI, so I thought that this would prove that the WIFI connection to the printer is good. My conclusion from this is that the ping software in the printer is still operating, but the path to the printer from the PC/HP Smart is blocked.

I have executed my tests on both 5ghz and 2.4ghz using a MS Surface (only WIFI access). When I tested, I always kept the Surface next to the printer, and ALWAYS on the same band, so I could confirm the signal quality.

I have also tested from a PC with an ethernet connect to the router, but suffered the same problems.

"Can you print if using a USB cable?"

Yes, I was able to print from a USB cable, but only after I connected to HP Smart.

I printed test page from USB and HP Smart, and it showed different driver lists

It would not let me print via the USB until HP Smart was setup.

Is this restriction because of the "Instant Ink" Plan?

"if the printer is connected to the router then try printing directly using Wi-Fi direct (or vice-versa)"

I have seen both the "Setup" and "Direct" WIFI networks popup when I am configuring used HP Smart

I have tried to connect to the "Direct" print WIFI network (using the code displayed in EWS and on Network printed page).... but it will not let me connect.    "Not allowed to connect to this network"

Is this restriction because of the "Instant Ink" Plan?

The Wi-Fi is working but something is broken and you cannot connect is all I meant.

According to ChatGPT you should be able to print over USB to the 6034e even if on an ink subscription as long as the printer remains connected over Wi-FI to the internet.  If you can only print using HP Smart then you need to load the full feature driver or ensure that windows has set the default printer to your 6034.

You are very likely correct.  Very few printer has use both Wi-Fi direct and be connected to the router over Wi-Fi at the same time.  I do not know if yours can do that.  If it could, I believe HP would list that feature.  if not, I suspect HP would not mention that as a possible problem.

If one or more of the following videos not work then then you may have a firewall blocking access to the printer.   I assume you not have have a flex system (multiple boosters or repeaters)

The below is all know about your Deskjet: 6034.  Hope I am not oversharing!

Watch the reset video or perform the steps. After resetting, you generally have 2 hours to complete the setup. Decide if you want to connect the printer to the router or to print directly to the printer and bypass the router.

Many HP and other OEM printers have problems with the router when the router has two bands and both bands have the same name (SSID). Log into the modem and rename one of the bands. Alternately, contact your ISP and have them rename a band.

Or simply use Wi-Fi direct (but read note below about Instant Ink).

If English is not your native language or if you wish to get additional information not covered below, then use the HP and Microsoft support assistants. The latest HPSA supports 36 languages and can be downloaded here. Microsoft's AI assistant is in the latest Windows 10 and 11 releases and there are instructions here on how to enable the AI. Microsoft's AI assistant (Copilot) has a microphone button and supports natural language processing.

Do not call any phone numbers shown in any of the videos or revealed by a Bing or Google search. You may need to reset your printer.

Disconnecting the USB cable may still leave the printer in the wired or Wi-Fi mode. Connecting an ethernet cable may still leave the printer in Wi-Fi mode. The Wi-Fi reset is used to put Wi-Fi printers into setup mode. Some resets are simple and others require a video to understand. Factory resets cannot be revealed in this forum. To do a factory reset of your printer, you must contact HP.

Wi-Fi reset instructions and videos (if any) are shown below. Generally you have 2 hours to connect your printer after performing the Wi-Fi reset. Note that a reset video may show a slightly different model than yours. Do not call any phone numbers revealed in any video or site.

Microsoft's Copilot may have more recent videos.
Watch this video to see how to reset your printer: 6020 6022 6030 6052 6055.
The steps below are Wi-Fi only and do not perform a factory reset.
Microsoft's Copilot may provide alternate solutions.

6052e

  1. Open the HP Smart app
  2. Select the printer
  3. Select Advanced Settings
  4. Select Restore Defaults
  5. Select Restore Factory Defaults
  6. Enter the printer PIN
  7. Select Yes to confirm
  8. Wait for the reset to complete

The steps below are Wi-Fi only and do not perform a factory reset.
Microsoft's Copilot may provide alternate solutions.

6020

  1. Turn off the printer and open the cartridge door
  2. On the backside, press both Wi-Fi Button and Power Key
  3. Hold both keys down for 3 seconds

Wi-Fi connection

Ideally, your Wi-Fi printer should connect to the modem or router. If your network has multiple boosters / repeaters, it is possible the printer may connect randomly to any of the units. The router needs to provide the same IP address on every connection. This rarely happens with random connects. An alternate Wi-Fi connection is Wi-Fi direct. Your laptop or smartphone prints directly to the printer and does not go through the router. Note that if you signed up for instant ink or internet printing your printer must also be online through the router. Do not call any phone number revealed in any video or site.

This video shows how to connect to the router: 6055
Wi-Fi Direct can be used to avoid configuring the router. Watch this: 6052e
Wi-Fi Direct is explained on page 30 of the User Manual, this Wi-Fi setup avoids configuring the router.
A simple connection to the router can be done by using the WPS pushbutton method. This is explained on page 26 in this User Manual.
