Two days ago found the machine with every possible light flashing and an error code of E6. Tried reset and power off, the start button and just plain unplug and nothing seems to work. Checked for firmware and nothing there helped. I am very disappointed in this equipment. I have had problems with it from the start. Any ideas would be great. Thanks

Hi @Dodgboy,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Envy 6400 series printer is showing all lights flashing and displaying an error code E6, this usually indicates a hardware issue, often related to a mechanical problem or a jam. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you troubleshoot and possibly resolve the issue:

1. Power Cycle the Printer

  • Turn Off the Printer: Press the power button to turn off the printer.
  • Unplug the Printer: Disconnect the power cord from both the printer and the power outlet.
  • Wait: Leave it unplugged for at least 60 seconds to allow any residual power to dissipate.
  • Reconnect and Power On: Plug the power cord back into the printer and the outlet, then turn the printer back on. Check if the issue persists.

2. Check for Paper Jams

  • Inspect Paper Path: Open all access doors (e.g., paper tray, rear access door) and check for any jammed paper or foreign objects. Gently remove any paper that might be obstructing the printer.
  • Look Inside: Carefully examine inside the printer for any debris or objects that could be causing a blockage. Be cautious not to damage any components.

3. Check Cartridges

  • Verify Cartridge Installation: Open the cartridge access door and ensure the cartridges are properly installed. Remove and reinsert them to ensure they are securely in place.
  • Inspect for Damage: Check the cartridges for any visible damage or leaks. Replace any damaged cartridges.

4. Reset the Printer

  • Factory Reset: Some printers have a factory reset option available through the menu or settings. Refer to the printer's user manual or HP's support site for specific instructions on performing a factory reset.

5. Update Firmware

  • Check Firmware: Although you mentioned checking for firmware, make sure you have the latest version. Visit the HP support website to download and install any available firmware updates for your printer.

6. Inspect and Clean the Printer

  • Clean the Printer: Dust or debris can sometimes cause issues. Use a soft, dry cloth to gently clean the exterior and accessible parts of the printer.
  • Check for Obstructions: Ensure that there is no obstruction around the printer’s moving parts.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
