Hi @Jacpmt,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The E8 error on your HP DeskJet 4258e usually indicates an issue with the ink system, paper jam, or a carriage jam. Here's a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

Check for Paper Jams

  • Open the paper tray and access the interior of the printer.
  • Remove any stuck or jammed paper.
  • Ensure no torn paper remains inside the printer.

Check the Ink Cartridges

  • Open the ink cartridge access door.
  • Make sure the cartridges are properly installed and not damaged.
  • Remove and reinstall the cartridges if necessary.
  • Clean the ink cartridge contacts with a soft, lint-free cloth if you notice ink buildup or debris.

Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for 60 seconds.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

Check for Obstructions

  • Ensure the carriage (the part that holds the ink cartridges) can move freely from left to right. If it’s stuck, gently move it to the center.

Update the Printer Firmware

  • If possible, check for firmware updates using the HP Smart app or the printer's control panel.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
