OfficeJet Pro 9010
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My brand new OfficeJet Pro 9010 displays the error "The HP software is setting up your printer," even though I am able to print from my desktop and mobile devices. I turned it off and unplugged it to reboot it. The error message still appears. Print and Scan Doctor did not help. The virtual chat kept going in circles, not understanding the problem. I cannot get a work order because the site requires a serial number. It is not recognized as a valid serial number HP, so I can't even request support! I also added the serial number a second time this morning as adding a new printer. My attempts to contact human support are going nowhere because I get the message that the serial number is invalid. I checked the number on the box as well as the printer. It was entered correctly. I purchased the printer yesterday from Costco I am hoping someone can solve the error message issue or help me circumvent and find a way to contact HP human support without the serial number. The 800 phone number sends a link to create a request, but it requires a serial number that is recognized.

Welcome to the HP support community.

Perform a power reset

  1. Turn on the printer, if it is not already on.
  2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
  3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  4. Wait at least 30 seconds.
  5. Plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet and printer without any surge protector.
  6. Turn on the printer.

Update the printer firmware

I hope that helps.
