Hi @AlMasso79

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

That sounds incredibly frustrating—especially when a routine update ends up locking your printer in an error state. Let’s try a few steps that have helped others recover from this kind of situation:

🔧 Step-by-Step Recovery for Error OX4EB8021

Power Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer using the power button.
  • Unplug the power cord from both the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Wait for 3–5 minutes to allow internal components to discharge.
  • Plug it back in and power it on—sometimes this alone clears the error.

Conduct a Hard Reset:

  • Remove the ink cartridges from the printer.
  • Disconnect the power cable, wait for a few minutes, and reconnect the cable.
  • Once the printer is back on, reinstall the ink cartridges.

Check for Paper or Cartridge Obstructions

  • Open the cartridge access door and inspect for any jammed paper or loose components.
  • Gently move the printhead carriage side to side to ensure it’s not stuck.
  • Remove and reseat the ink cartridges securely.

Update Firmware via USB (if accessible)

  • If the printer powers on partially, you can try updating the firmware manually:
    • Download the latest firmware from the HP OfficeJet 5232 support page.
    • Use a USB cable to connect the printer to your PC.
    • Run the firmware update utility and follow the prompts.

Factory Reset (if menu is accessible)

  • If the printer’s touchscreen responds:
    • Go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore Factory Defaults
    • Confirm and allow the printer to reboot

If none of these steps help and the printer remains unresponsive, it may need service intervention. But fingers crossed—we’ll try everything we can before going down that road.

Let me know how it responds after the reset steps, and I’ll guide you from there! 💪

Hi @Hawks_Eye,

I'm so sorry for my late reply.

However, I've already tried everything you suggested, but every attempt was useless.

The problems started just after I've performed the firmware update directly on printer's panel.

Moreover, I've also downloaded the exe file OJ5200_2421A to update the firmware: the Printer Update utility recognizes the printer, but is not possible to select the prnter to perform the firmware update (see screenshot below).

Currently the firmware version is the VERPLSPP1N003.2421A.00, is there any way to restore previous firmware, or at least flash another firmware to the printer?

Best regards!

Hey @AlMasso79,

Thank you for your response

My colleague @Hawks_Eye is currently out, but don't worry – I’ll be taking over and making sure we get this sorted for you.

Unfortunately, once the firmware is updated on your printer, it's not possible to downgrade or reflash to an earlier version.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hello @Garp_senchau,

thanks for your answer.

So, what can I do to solve the problem?

It all started after an official firmware update provided by HP, and now my printer is not usable anymore.

I would expect HP find a solution because it wasn't my fault.

Best regards,
