Hello. All of a sudden my HP 8600 Pro is saying. "There is a problem with the printer or ink system. Turn printer off, then on. If problem persists, contact HP. I did all of that, plus unplugged it overnight, changed the cartridges twice using HP brand. When I put the HP cartridge in it acknowledges that there is a new HP Cartridge and it does its thing and all of a sudden this error message puts up again. There are no paper jams or anything. When I put the old cartridge in, it states it is empty. Does anyone have any ideas?

@kattking69, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

It sounds like you're dealing with a frustrating issue with your HP 8600 Pro printer, and you've already done a lot of the basic troubleshooting (restarting, replacing cartridges, and unplugging). The "problem with the printer or ink system" error is common with HP printers, and there are several steps you can take to try to resolve it.

Here are the HP troubleshooting steps for your issue:

Check for Ink Cartridge Issues:

Reinstall Cartridges: Even though you've replaced the ink cartridges, it's worth trying to remove them again, clean the contacts on both the cartridges and the printer, and then reinsert them firmly.

Check the Ink Cartridges for Damage: Sometimes ink cartridges can be defective even when new. Double-check that the cartridges are seated correctly and that there’s no visible damage to the cartridge or the printhead.

Reset the Printer:

Since you already unplugged it overnight, let's make sure the printer is performing a full reset:

Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.

Leave the printer unplugged for at least 60 seconds (this is important for clearing out any residual power).

Plug the printer back in and power it on.

Clean the Printhead:

If there’s a clog or buildup in the printhead, it can cause this error. You can try cleaning it:

On the printer’s control panel, go to Settings > Tools > Clean Printhead.

Follow the instructions to clean the printhead. This may take a few minutes and could resolve the issue if the printhead is clogged.

Remove and Reinstall the Printer Drivers:

Sometimes a software issue or corrupt driver can cause communication issues between the printer and the computer.

Uninstall the current printer drivers from your computer.

Download the latest drivers from HP’s website and reinstall them.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
