I have a HP OfficeJet pro 6968. It keeps telling me there is a printer failure with the message error number of 0x6100004a.  Restarting the printer did not work. How do I fix this?

Hi @Mmjah ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are getting the error code 0x6100004a on your HP OfficeJet Pro 6968 typically indicates a hardware issue with the printer.

Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem:

  • Reset the Printer: Turn off the printer, disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer, and wait for about 60 seconds. Then, reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer.
  • Check for Obstructions: Open the printer cover and check for any paper jams, foreign objects, or debris that may be obstructing the printer mechanism. If you find any, carefully remove them.
  • Inspect the Ink Cartridges: Make sure that the ink cartridges are properly installed and seated correctly. Remove and reinsert them if necessary.
  • Check for Firmware Updates: Sometimes, firmware updates can resolve certain issues with the printer. Check the HP website for any available firmware updates for your specific printer model and follow the instructions to install them. Update the firmware on an HP printer
  • Clean the Print Head: If the print head is clogged or dirty, it can cause printing problems. Use the printer's software utility to run a print head cleaning cycle.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
