Hi @lebratt

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I'm really sorry you're seeing error code 0xB802468A on your HP OfficeJet 4655—it’s frustrating when the printer halts without a clear explanation. This code typically signals a firmware-level fault or internal hardware miscommunication.

Let’s walk through steps to help recover your printer.

Step 1: Perform a Hard Reset

This reset can clear firmware lockups without affecting your ink levels or saved settings.

  1. Power off the printer and disconnect the power cord from both the printer and the wall outlet.
  2. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  3. While the printer is still unplugged, press and hold the Power button.
  4. While holding the Power button, plug the power cord back into the printer, then into the wall.
  5. Continue holding the Power button for 15 more seconds, then release.
  6. Wait to see if the printer boots normally.

Step 2: Remove Ink Cartridges and Retry Boot

Sometimes cartridge communication faults can trigger this error.

  1. Power off the printer and unplug it.
  2. Open the cartridge access door and remove both cartridges.
  3. Close the door, plug the printer back in, and power it on without cartridges installed.
  4. If it boots successfully, it will prompt you to reinstall cartridges—this helps isolate the issue.

Step 3: Update Firmware via USB

If the printer is detected by your PC, you may be able to reload the firmware.

  1. Connect the printer to your PC using a USB cable.
  2. Visit: HP Printer Firmware Update Utility
  3. Download the utility and follow the on-screen steps to detect and update your printer.

Step 4: Run HP Diagnostics (if accessible)

If the printer boots partially or shows any display activity:

  • Power off the printer.
  • Press Back + Cancel + Power together (if supported on your model).
  • This may trigger a diagnostic mode that can bypass the error and allow internal checks.

Let me know how the printer responds to these steps. You’re doing the right thing by reaching out early—this kind of error can be stubborn, but with the right sequence, recovery is often possible.
