I ran out of ink in my cartridges and removed them while the printer was still on and saw the error code oxc4eb8000 (HWUMICC I2C). It remained there even after putting the cartridges back...I've tried unplugging and plugging my printer several times, but the error code is still stuck there. I can't press any of the other buttons because they keep blinking.
My printer model is Deskjet 3830

Hi @Andrew409 ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are getting the error code 0xc4eb8000 (HWUMICC I2C) on your HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 3830 printer usually indicates a hardware-related issue, often linked to the printhead, ink cartridges, or a firmware glitch. Here's how to troubleshoot:
Step 1: Reset the Printer
- Turn off the printer using the power button.
- Unplug the printer from the power source.
- Disconnect any USB cables (if connected).
- Wait for at least 60 seconds.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
Step 2: Check the Ink Cartridges
- Open the printer's cartridge access area.
- Remove both cartridges.
- Inspect the cartridges for:
- Any visible damage.
- Dried or dirty electrical contacts.
- Clean the electrical contacts gently with a lint-free cloth dampened with distilled water.
- Reinsert the cartridges firmly into their slots.
- Close the cartridge access area and check for the error.
Step 3: Perform a Manual Reset
- Unplug the printer again.
- Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
- While holding the button, plug the printer back in.
- Release the button and turn the printer on.
Step 4: Update Printer Firmware
- If the printer is still not operational, temporarily connect it to a PC using USB.
- Download and install the latest firmware for your printer from the HP Software and Drivers page.
- Follow on-screen instructions to update the firmware.
Step 5: Inspect for Hardware Issues
- If the error persists:
- Check for paper jams or debris inside the printer.
- Ensure all access doors are securely closed.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
