HP LaserJet MFP M234dwe Printer

Hello

about a week ago our printer started to act strange and locked us out of it. there didn't seem to be any obvious reason for the change but the printer now sends the "Printer Cannot Print" error and won't tell us what the issue is.

we are not part of the "insta-ink" program so it shouldn't be a payment issue with that and all of our ink cartridges are HP brand bought from staples.

when documents are sent to the print it empties the queue but doesn't actually print the file. there is a orange light on the front that is pulsating slowly.

any help with this would be very useful.

Hi @UsEngineering

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP device, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today.

Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the "Printer Cannot Print" error:

Check the Connection:

  • Ensure that the printer is properly connected to your network (if it's a wireless printer) or check the USB cable if it's connected directly to your computer.

Restart the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it, wait about 30 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on again. This can help reset any temporary issues.

Check for Paper Jams:

  • Open the printer and check for any paper jams or obstructions that might be preventing it from printing.

Inspect the Ink Cartridges:

  • Remove and reseat the ink cartridges to ensure they are properly installed. Check for any protective tape that may not have been removed.

Run the HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • This is a free tool from HP that can help diagnose and fix common printing issues. You can download it from HP’s support website.

Check Printer Status:

  • Make sure the printer is set as the default printer on your computer and check the printer settings to see if there are any errors indicated.

Firmware Update:

  • Check if there’s a firmware update available for your printer. Sometimes, updating the firmware can resolve functionality issues.
