I went through all the steps to setup my new printer and everything worked great for two days and now all of the sudden it keeps showing an error message saying incompatible cartridges. I installed the ones that came with my printer. I also checked them to make sure they were for this printer which they are. I have the hp office jet pro 9120r. Please help!

@Ashbo777, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding error message for ink cartridge!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I know how frustrating it feels when everything works smoothly at first and then suddenly the printer starts complaining about cartridges — especially when you’re using the genuine ones that came in the box. Let’s try a few steps to get things back on track:

Power reset: While the printer is on, unplug the power cord from the wall and printer. Wait about a minute, then plug it back in and restart. Sometimes this clears false cartridge errors.

Re-seat the cartridges: Gently remove each cartridge, check for any protective tape or dust on the copper contacts, and snap them back in until they click firmly.

Clean the contacts: With a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water, wipe the copper-colored contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer where they meet. Let them dry before reinserting.

Update firmware: If possible, check HP Smart or the printer’s touchscreen for a firmware update — it can help the printer better recognize the cartridges.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
