Hi @OzarkFarmer

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

This error typically means the printer failed to process the PDF file due to a formatting, driver, or communication issue.

Let’s walk through steps to resolve it and get your document printed smoothly.

Step-by-step guide to fix “The printer couldn't print Simple PDF print”

1. Try Printing a Different PDF

  • Open another PDF file and attempt to print it.
  • If the second file prints successfully, the original PDF may be corrupted or contain unsupported elements.

2. Print as Image (Adobe Acrobat Reader)

This bypasses complex formatting that may block printing.

  • Open the PDF in Adobe Acrobat Reader.
  • Go to File > Print.
  • Click Advanced and check Print as Image.
  • Click OK > Print.

This method often resolves errors caused by fonts or embedded graphics.

3. Save a New Copy of the PDF

  • Open the original PDF.
  • Choose File > Save As and save it under a new name.
  • Try printing the new version.

This refreshes the file structure and may eliminate hidden errors.

4. Update Printer Driver and Firmware

Outdated drivers can block PDF rendering.

  • Visit the HP OfficeJet 8020 Drivers page.
  • Download and install the latest:
    • Full Software and Drivers
    • Firmware Update Utility
  • Restart your computer and printer after installation.

5. Use the HP App to Print

  • Open the HP App.
  • Select your printer > Tap Print Documents.
  • Choose the PDF and send it directly from the app.

This method uses HP’s optimized rendering engine and may bypass the error.

Let me know how the printer responds after these steps—I’ll help you fine-tune further if needed.
