Hi @Richardhome,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

When you see an error symbol on your HP printer along with an "E" message flashing, it typically indicates an issue that needs attention. Here are some general steps you can take to troubleshoot the problem.

  • Check the Error Message: If there is a specific error message displayed along with the "E" symbol, take note of it. It may provide clues about the nature of the problem.
  • Restart the Printer: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve many printer issues. Turn off the printer, wait for a few seconds, and then turn it back on.
  • Check for Paper Jams: Open the printer cover and check for any paper jams or obstructions in the paper path. If you find any, carefully remove them. Be sure to follow the printer's manual for proper procedures on clearing paper jams.
  • Check Ink or Toner Cartridges: If your printer uses ink or toner cartridges, ensure they are properly installed and have sufficient ink or toner. Replace any cartridges that are low or empty.
  • Inspect for Hardware Issues: Look for any visible signs of damage or malfunction, such as loose cables, broken parts, or foreign objects inside the printer. If you find any, address them accordingly.
  • Update Printer Firmware: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer model. Updating the firmware can sometimes resolve compatibility issues or bugs causing the error.
  • Reset the Printer: If none of the above steps resolve the issue, you may need to perform a reset on the printer. Refer to the printer's manual for instructions on how to reset it to its factory settings.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
