I noticed when trying to print recently, I can not print in colour.  When I access the printer preferences, I can choose "BEST".  As soon as I do this, everything craps out.  When I try and access preferences again, I get this error message. I have uninstalled/reinstalled drivers and software more times than should be necessary for any device.  The whole problem is, where the hell did the print in greyscale and colour options go?2018-11-08.png

@chiphazardmaj

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

As I understand, you're unable to print in color and you get an error message when trying to access printing preferences,

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

When was the last time it worked fine?

Were there any hardware/software changes made?

Are you able to make a copy?

I understand you have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers, but here I am providing you the steps to remove the printer drivers from root level, therefore, I would suggest you try these steps (If not performed) and check the functionality:

  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP OfficeJet printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Then press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

To reinstall, click here

Let me know how this goes,

Same issue after doing this several times.  Can access Printer Preferences once and then it craps out.  Still no option to choose colour printing. It won't even print colour on test page.  Scan Doctor finds nothing wrong. This is unacceptable, so I bought an EPSON.

I can't access the printer properties either. As soon as I do, the print screen locks. And then the printer stops printing in color. See my troubleshooting so far here: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Inkjet-Printing/My-HP-OfficeJet-4650-won-t-print-color/m-p/7129674#M80...

Has anyone found any solution that makes it possible to access the printer properties on an HP OfficeJet 4650?
