Hi @Clayton51

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for sharing the event code—I'm really sorry your HP OfficeJet Pro 8035 is showing Event Code: 71.02.4A. This error typically indicates a cartridge detection failure or printhead communication issue, often triggered after installing new ink cartridges.

Here’s a focused recovery process to help resolve it:

Step-by-Step Fix for Event Code 71.02.4A

1. Power Drain Reset

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from both the printer and wall outlet.
  • Wait 60 seconds.
  • Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds (while unplugged).
  • Plug it back in directly to a wall outlet (not a surge protector).
  • Power on the printer.

This clears residual charge and resets internal error states.

2. Clean Cartridge and Printhead Contacts

  • Open the cartridge access door.
  • Remove all cartridges.
  • Gently clean the copper-colored contacts on each cartridge using a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  • Clean the contact strip inside the carriage as well.
  • Let everything dry for 5 minutes.
  • Reinsert cartridges firmly until they click into place.

Even a slight misalignment or debris can trigger this error.

3. Use Genuine HP Cartridges

  • Confirm that you’re using HP 962 or HP 962XL cartridges.
  • Avoid refilled or third-party cartridges—they often fail to communicate properly with the printhead.

4. Update Printer Firmware

Firmware updates improve cartridge recognition and error handling.

5. Run HP Diagnose & Fix Tool

Let me know what happens after the reset and cleaning—I’ll guide you step by step until it’s resolved.
