Event code 71.02.4A HP office jet 8020 the ink carriage does not reset.
I have followed numerous suggestions, unplugging printer, turning off and on, etc. There is no paper jam, no idea why the ink carriage does not reset.

Hi @20Snow,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Manual Check for Carriage Obstructions:
- Open the printer cover and gently move the carriage to ensure there are no obstructions preventing it from moving. Sometimes, small bits of paper or other debris can cause blockage.
Reinstall Ink Cartridges:
- Remove the ink cartridges from the carriage. Carefully inspect them for any damage or issues.
- Reinsert the ink cartridges ensuring they are properly seated.
Printhead Cleaning:
- Perform a printhead cleaning process from the printer’s control panel. This can sometimes help resolve issues related to carriage movement.
Power Cycle with Ink Carriage Repositioning:
- Unplug the printer from the power source while it is turned on.
- Move the carriage manually to the center position.
- Plug the printer back into the power source and turn it on.
Reset Printer:
- Perform a hard reset by unplugging the printer, waiting for about 60 seconds, and then plugging it back in.
- Turn on the printer and check if the carriage resets correctly.
Firmware Update:
- Ensure the printer firmware is up-to-date. Visit the HP Support page to download and install the latest firmware updates for your printer.
Check for Mechanical Issues:
- Inspect the printer for any visible mechanical issues or damages that might be preventing the carriage from moving correctly.
I hope this helps.
