Hi @Me19811,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your DeskJet printer is showing an “expired” message and won’t print. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

a. Identify What’s Expired

The term “expired” usually refers to expired ink cartridges, not the printer itself.

Open the printer control panel or HP Smart app — check if there’s a message about cartridge expiration or warranty ended.

b. Check Ink Cartridge Status

On the printer’s display (if available), navigate to Ink Levels or open the HP Smart app → Printer Settings → Supply Status.

If any cartridge shows “Expired” or “Depleted,” it needs to be replaced with a new HP genuine cartridge.

c. Remove and Reinstall Cartridges

Power on the printer.

Open the cartridge access door and remove both ink cartridges.

Gently wipe the copper contacts with a lint-free cloth and reinsert them firmly.

Close the access door and check if the error clears.

d. Disable Cartridge Protection (if applicable)

Open HP Smart → Printer Settings → Advanced Settings (EWS).

Go to Settings → HP Cartridge Protection and turn it Off.

This helps if the printer thinks cartridges belong to another printer.

e. Check for Firmware Update

In the HP Smart app, go to Printer Settings → Advanced → Update Firmware.

An outdated firmware can sometimes misread cartridge status.

I hope this helps.
