Failed Printhead

We have always loved our Office Jet 8620 until now!!! Out of nowhere, the printer states that the printhead is missing or has failed.  I have tried EVERYTHING I could find without success.  I have been trying to contact a live assistant for over an hour now and am getting nowhere!!!  very disappointed.  I have narrowed the issue down to needing to replace the printhead but am upset that it is not sold without the ink cartridges!! I have new cartridges!! why can I not buy just the printhead??  Why can I NOT get to a real person?? 

And if I DO end up buying the printhead with cartridges, what is to say the dang thing will work??  Is that a guaranteed fix for the issue?  I don't know because I cant as a real person!! 

Does anyone here have any ideas?

@tnt_mom, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

 

I understand you are not able to print due to this error on the printer. 

 

Make sure you have  tried the steps mentioned in this document - Error Indicates Faulty Printhead

 

If the error persists, this is a hardware failure either with the printhead or the printer itself. As the printer is out of warranty you are anot able to reach a live agent from technical support and for the same reason we cannot guarantee if replacing the printhead will resolve this issue. You may do so at your own discretion.

 

The printheads will come with setup ink cartridges that are required to initialize the printer. You cannot use the regular ink cartridge in a new printhead unless it is initialized.
