My brand new printer shows false paper jam

False paper jams can occur even when there is no jammed paper inside the printer. You can follow these steps to resolve the issue:

Possible Jam Locations

Paper jams can occur in the following areas of the printer:

  1. Output tray
  2. Separator pad
  3. Document feeder
  4. Print zone
  5. Input Tray
  6. Rear access area

Steps to Remove Jammed Paper

Clear a paper jam from the input tray:

  • Pull out the input tray.
  • Check the gap in the printer where the input tray was. Reach into the gap and remove any jammed paper.
  • Reinsert the input tray into the printer.

Clear a paper jam from the print zone:

  • Open the cartridge access door.
  • Move the print carriage to the far right or left of the printer and remove any jammed paper.
  • Close the cartridge access door.

Clear a paper jam from the rear access area:

  • Turn to the rear of the printer.
  • Press the buttons on the rear access door and open the door.
  • Remove any jammed paper.
  • Insert the paper path cover back into the printer.
  • Close the rear access door.

Clear a paper jam from the document feeder:

  • Lift the cover of the document feeder.
  • Pull any jammed paper out of the rollers.
  • Close the cover of the document feeder.
  • Lift the document feeder tray and remove any jammed paper underneath.
  • Lower the document feeder tray.

Reset the Printer

Resetting the printer can help recover from printer errors or failures:

  1. Press the power button to turn off the printer. If it does not turn off, disconnect the power cord.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the power source.
  3. Wait 60 seconds.
  4. Connect the power cord directly to a wall outlet and to the printer.
  5. Turn on the printer to complete the reset.
