HP DeskJet 2742e All-in-One Printer

I've just moved and I was able to connect the printer to a new wifi, however when I tried to print out a document I immediately received an error message (no number to go along with it) and there's a little envelope with what looks like a drop on the corner and its flashing. Somebody please help!!

Hi @Jotowngirl,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The flashing envelope with a drop icon on your HP DeskJet 2742e usually indicates a problem with the printer's connectivity or ink supply. Here are some steps you can take to resolve the issue.

Check Ink Cartridges

  • Ensure Proper Installation: Open the ink cartridge access door and make sure the ink cartridges are installed correctly and securely.
  • Check for Errors: Remove and reinsert the cartridges to ensure they are seated properly. Look for any protective tape or packaging that might still be on the cartridges.

Check for Paper Jams

  • Inspect the Printer: Open all access doors and check for any paper jams or obstructions. Remove any jammed paper carefully.

WiFi and Connectivity Issues

  • Verify Network Connection: Make sure the printer is connected to the correct WiFi network. You might need to reconnect it to your new network if it was not set up properly.
  • Reconfigure WiFi Settings: Use the printer’s control panel or HP Smart app to reconnect to the WiFi network.

Printer Reset

  • Power Cycle: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for 30 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Factory Reset: If the problem persists, consider performing a factory reset.

Update Firmware

  • Check for Updates: Make sure the printer’s firmware is up to date. You can usually update the firmware via the HP Smart app or the printer’s control panel.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
