Hi @Rodge1966,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your printer shows flashing lights and only works after restarting. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

   a. Check for Paper Jam or Obstruction
     • Open the ink cartridge access door and the rear cleanout door.
     • Gently remove any jammed or partially fed paper, torn bits, or debris.
     • Make sure the paper path and rollers are clean and moving freely.

   b. Verify Paper Loading
     • Ensure paper is properly aligned in the input tray.
     • Do not overload the tray—keep it within the paper limit.
     • Adjust the paper guides so they lightly touch the paper edges.

   c. Check Ink Cartridges
     • Open the ink access door and confirm both cartridges are installed correctly and clicked in firmly.
     • If any protective tape is still on the cartridge nozzles, remove it.
     • Clean the copper contacts with a lint-free cloth if there’s any ink or dust buildup.

   d. Restart the Printer (Power Reset)
     • Turn the printer off and unplug the power cord from the printer and wall outlet.
     • Wait for 60 seconds to drain residual power.
     • Plug the power cord directly into the wall outlet and turn the printer back on.

   e. Check Wireless and Status Lights
     • If the Wi-Fi light is blinking along with the icons, press and hold the Wi-Fi button and Cancel (X) button together for 3 seconds to reset the network.
     • After reset, reconnect the printer to Wi-Fi using the HP Smart app.

I hope this helps.
