I am having problems printing photos with my OfficeJet Pro 8710.
- High-gloss photo papers from Avery in various sizes, 200g/m² to 250g/m²:
The photo paper is not fed at all or not fed correctly, there is always a paper jam. - High-gloss photo paper from Avery, 180g/m²:
The paper is fed and printed, but the entire print is offset approx. 2cm to the front, which means the printer prints the first 2cm into the void, the photo then has a 2 cm wide blank margin at the back!
I have tried all available paper types on the printer without success.
When the printer was new, it printed on this photo paper without any problems!
How can I solve these problems?

Hi @Findusdwarf,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
It sounds like you're having a frustrating experience with your OfficeJet Pro 8710 not properly feeding or printing on high-gloss photo paper. Let’s work together to figure this out!
- Have you made any firmware updates or changes to your printer settings recently?
- Do you notice any unusual noises or movements from the printer when the paper jams occur?
- Has this issue only been happening with Avery photo papers, or does it affect other brands or types of photo paper?
Let's try these steps.
Clean the paper rollers: Sometimes the rollers may get dusty or worn out, leading to improper feeding of the photo paper. You can clean the rollers by opening the printer’s back panel and using a clean, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water to wipe the rollers. Make sure they are fully dry before testing again.
Adjust the paper guides: Ensure that the paper guides in the input tray are snugly positioned against the edges of the photo paper, but not too tight. Improperly positioned guides can cause paper jams or feeding issues.
Check the paper weight setting: Since you’re using different paper weights, make sure your printer's paper type setting matches the weight of the paper. For high-gloss Avery paper, manually set the paper type to "Photo Paper" or "Heavy Paper" via the print dialog box on your computer. Some models allow custom settings for different weights.
Update or reset printer firmware: If there’s been a recent firmware update, it may have altered the way the printer handles specific paper types. Check if your printer has the latest firmware. If it does, you might want to try resetting the printer to its factory settings (after backing up custom settings, if needed) and see if this resolves the issue.
If not done, update the firmware. Click here
Test a different photo paper: If possible, test with another brand of high-gloss photo paper to determine if the problem is specific to the Avery paper or if it's a broader issue with the photo paper feed mechanism.
You may also refer to this document for other print quality issues.
Let me know how these steps go, and we can troubleshoot further if needed!
Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.

I had to buy some other photo paper to do the tests, that took a few days.
With quite thin paper it works- only 130 or 150g/m². But not with my normal inkjet paper with 200 to 250 g/m².
It works with the thin paper, but it's nowhere near the quality of normal photo paper
Now I have a lot of photo paper lying around that I can no longer do anything with.
I will definitely never again buy a printer without a single sheet feeder, where the paper is pulled almost straight through.

Hi @Findusdwarf ,
I'm sorry to hear that. I understand your frustration.
Some printers have limitations on the paper you use. I wish I could do something better.
I appreciate your time and patience. Take care😊.
