Hi @Mar05002,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

The E6 error on HP printers, especially models like the DeskJet, ENVY, and Smart Tank series, indicates a generic printer error. It’s not tied to a specific hardware fault but usually relates to a communication, setup, or firmware issue.

Steps to Fix E6 Error on HP Printers

1. Restore Factory Defaults

Resetting the printer can clear the error:

  • Press and hold the Information button for 5 seconds until all buttons light up.
  • Then press and hold the Cancel + Wireless buttons together for 5 seconds.
  • The printer will reset and restart.

2. Remove and Re-add the Printer in HP Smart App

  • Open the HP Smart app.
  • Right-click or long-press the printer name → select Hide Printer or Remove Printer.
  • Click Add Printer or the + icon to re-add it.
  • Complete the setup again.

3. Update Firmware

Make sure your printer has the latest firmware: 👉Official HP® Drivers and Software Download | HP® Support

4. Check for Physical Issues

  • Ensure there are no paper jamscartridge issues, or open doors.
  • Re-seat the ink cartridges and close all access doors securely.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
