HP ENVY 6055e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

I have been printing envelopes without any problems for months and months.  Now I'm using a different brand of envelope that is the same size and I get an E1 error message.  The envelope feeds on thru without ever printing when I clear the error, so it's not an issue with the envelope getting jammed.  What is going on???

@Donnac3380, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

The E1 error you're encountering with your HP ENVY 6055e All-in-One Printer when attempting to print envelopes. I understand how frustrating this can be, especially since you've been printing envelopes without issues for months. Let's work through this together to resolve the problem.

Verify Envelope Size and Settings

Check Envelope Size: Ensure the new brand of envelopes matches the size specifications (e.g., DL, C6) of the ones you've been using previously.

Adjust Printer Settings: In your print settings, confirm that the paper size is set to match the envelope size. For instance, if you're using DL envelopes, set the paper size to DL in the print dialog.

Reload the Envelopes Correctly

Input Tray: Place the envelopes in the input tray with the print side facing up.

Orientation: Ensure the envelopes are loaded with the short edge first and the flap side down, as per the printer's specifications.

Check for Paper Mismatch

Paper Mismatch Error: An E1 error can occur if the paper size setting does not match the paper loaded in the input tray.

Resolution: Double-check that the paper size setting in the print dialog matches the actual size of the envelopes loaded in the tray.

Reset the Printer

Power Cycle: Turn off the printer, unplug it for 60 seconds, then plug it back in and power it on. This can help reset any internal errors.

Update Printer Firmware

Firmware Update: Ensure your printer's firmware is up to date. You can check for updates through the HP Smart app or by visiting the HP Support website.

Take care and have a good day.
