I have a HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 that is connected wirelessly.  All of a sudden it stopped printing.  Originally it was giving me an error about printing MEMO style.  I uninstalled and reinstalled and it worked a couple times and now it is giving an error that it can't find the print job.

@TanaK, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

Based on the error message:

"Error printing on HP OfficeJet Pro 6970 PCL-3 (Network). The printer couldn't print Microsoft Outlook - Memo Style."

and your description of intermittent issues like "REMOTE" error, "can't find print job", and wireless connection problems, here's a comprehensive troubleshooting guide to resolve the issue:

Remove Old Printer Drivers and Entries

  • Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers
  • Right-click and remove all instances of your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978.
  • Go to Print Management (printmanagement.msc) > Drivers and remove any leftover HP PCL-3 drivers.

Assign a Static IP to the Printer

This prevents the printer from changing IP addresses, which can cause "can't find print job" errors.

  • On the printer's control panel, go to:
    • Settings > Network Setup > Wireless Settings > Advanced Settings > IP Settings
    • Set Manual IP and assign a static IP (e.g., 192.168.1.150)
  • Reserve this IP in your router settings (DHCP reservation).

Reinstall the Printer Using HP Smart

  • Download and install HP Smart. HP Smart
  • Use HP Smart to add the printer using its static IP.
  • Avoid using the PCL-3 driver; instead, let HP Smart install the correct driver.

Set the Correct Default Printer

  • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners
  • Ensure the correct printer (not a copy or offline version) is set as default.

Test Printing from Outlook

  • Open Outlook and try printing an email.
  • If the error persists, change the print style:
    • In Outlook, go to File > Print > Print Options
    • Select Table Style instead of Memo Style and test again.

I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.
