Just after turning my printer on it makes a horrible grinding noise and an error shows stating that I should restart the printer and if the problem persists then the scanner has become damaged. What I’m wondering is if it’s worth trying to get it repaired or if I should just get a new printer? I’ve had it since 2017.

I'd like to help with the printer issue

 

Let's try a power reset on the printer

 

Reset the product

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn the printer on. HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.

Try copying with the scanner lid lifted, if the error persists or if the scanner bar does not light up or move Contact HP in your region regarding the service options for your printer
