HOW TO GET THE MOST OUR OF INK IN DESKJET/INKJET PRINTER ONLY USE BLACK AND COLOR LEVELS GO DOWN!!!

i SIMPLY WANT TO KNOW WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO HAVE YOUR PRINT INK LAST.   I DONT PRINT A LOT AND ONLY USE BLACK INK 99% OF THE TIME.  YET MY COLOR INK LEVELS SHRINK??  WHY?????  IS IT BEST TO KEEP PRINTER ON AS i HAVE BEEN TURNING OFF IN BETWEEN USES.  OR BETTER TO LEAVE ON ALL THE TIME?  WHAT IS BEST WAY TO KEEP ME FROM PAYING YI=OU FOR MORE INK THAT JUST SEEMS TO EVAPORATE INTO THE AIR?

Though you print only in black, a part of the color ink is still used to enhance the print quality. There are a few things to prevent excess ink usage:

• The printer should always be plugged into a live outlet.  If you use an external switch such as an outlet switch then more ink will be used at each startup.
• Do not run cleaning cycles from the computer's toolbox or the printer's front panel.  These are rarely needed (perhaps once for each half dozen cartridges) and will use ink.
• Printing in Draft mode may have acceptable quality while providing about 2x the pages of Normal or Best modes.
